The Plaza Theatre, located on W. State Street, has been a fixture in Garland, TX for decades. It has been a theatre since the 1940’s and is a well-known landmark. Originally, the building was the Cole & Davis Drygoods Store. The building has been lovingly restored in the art deco style which pays homage to its past. Upon entry, patrons are impressed by the domed lobby complete with chandelier. Closer inspection reveals modern technology is employed with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. Velvet seating also speaks to the historically accurate renovation. With seating for 350 people, the venue is a popular for events such as business meetings, receptions, musical productions, and concerts. The site was donated to the city in 1991. It is considered part of the Granville Arts Center complex which also contains other facilities available to the arts community of Garland.1
