Much of my practice focuses on persons suffering from depression. Clients include college age students, young and middle-aged adults as well as the elderly. I engage a number of beneficial therapy modalities including: crisis intervention, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic narrative, guided imagery and critical stress debriefing. Due to the high prevalance of cooccurence specifically anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression, integrative therapy modalities are employed. Every session utilizes Carl Rogers' famous client centered model and places priority on establishing a warm, safe, empathic environment conducive to achieving favorable outcomes and restoration.

Simply finding the energy to search out options for a therapist shows your desire to get better. And that is something to hold on to as tightly as you can. In this day and age where we seem to only communicate through text messages and phone apps it becomes more difficult to allow ourselves to feel as well as heal. Working together we can process the challenges that are holding you down as well as work towards goals that can get you past these hurdles.

Bobbi Newman, LMHC, CIRT

Licensed Mental Heath Counselor, Certified Imago Therapist

4901 NW 17th Way Ste. 408, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33309

We have an epidemic of depression in our culture. Depression has it's roots in how we learn to express our feelings...or not express them. We are often taught that it's ok to feel happy, but not sad. Keep that smile on your face. Don't air dirty laundry in public. Not being able to express your feelings can easily lead to depression. When you become depressed, your brain chemistry gets out of whack, and everything begins to become effected. I can help you understand and work through the causes and effects of depression.

Kristin Jones, DHSc, LMHC

Licensed Psychotherapist, DBT Therapist, Doctor of Health Science

Miami, Florida 33137

Clients who suffer from depression can benefit from my unique form of therapy that helps to recognize negative and irrational thought patterns while learning to replace these thoughts with more realistic, positive and health promoting methods of thinking. I also use basic meditation and relaxation techniques as a tool to decrease feelings of hopelessness, apathy, and sadness while improving overall well-being. Working through depression can help clients to find a light in the dark tunnel and develop ways to not only decrease depression, but improve overall functioning in life. Clients learn about who they are at a deeper and more compassionate way through this method.

Jenifer Garrido, MSW, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist

719 Peachtree Road, Ste 200, Orlando, Florida 32804

As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist for over 17 years ,my goal is to teach clients how our negative self talk, that little voice that always reminds us of our faults, shortcomings and mistakes, is the basis for low self esteem and depression. Essentially, what we "think" is what we "feel". By learning to identify these irrational and destructive thoughts and utilize effective strategies to challenge and reframe our self talk and behavior, we can reshape our self concept and begin to live the life that we deserve and desire

Depression can be highly incapacitating. It may not only affect every day functioning (increased work absenteeism, lack of energy, decreased pleasure, and reduced productivity, etc.), but also a person’s physical health (higher propensity for illness and worse prognosis for such chronic illnesses as asthma, arthritis, diabetes, cancer and heart disease). We approach the treatment of depression practicing an eclectic approach that includes: the exploration and Socratic questioning of negative views of self, and the world and the future, the revaluation and modification of these views, the exploration of deeply rooted feelings of abandonment and loss that can be fueling the depressive outlook, and....

As a psychologist, depression may be the most common complaint or difficulty that my clients experience. Put simply, depression can be a result of genetic/constitutional tendencies, environmental issues such as life stressors, or both. I often employ what is known as the cognitive-behavioral approach in dealing with depression, in other words looking at the relationship between negative, self-defeating thoughts, and the resulting emotion, e.g., "Stinkin' Thinkin'." I also place a large emphasis on important daily mood issues, such as sleep, diet, activity level, and receiving adequate light levels. An attitude of gratefulness is important in reducing feelings of depression.
