Previous to starting a private practice Julia worked in a community mental health agency, providing individual, sibling and family therapy and group therapy as well, to kids of all ages. Julia worked with children and adolescents in outpatient services, as well as in the inpatient crisis unit. Often times, clients Julia works with enjoyed using paint, clay or even sand during sessions to express their feelings and decrease anxiety.
Julia enjoys working with adolescents and adults, as well as some younger children. Julia is an eclectic practitioner and is open to incorporating many modalities into treatment, depending on the needs of the particular client. Julia employs play as well as other expressive techniques, such as art or narrative, as part of treatment. Julia's office has a separate playroom that is available for use with clients of all ages; sometimes even adults like to use paint, clay or the sand table during therapy sessions. With older children, adolescents and adults Julia typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as mindfulness based techniques. Julia's aim is to impart to clients the skills necessary for them to self-regulate their emotional reactions and decrease overwhelming symptoms. Julia has been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction techniques.
Julia received her Master of Social Work from Florida Gulf Coast University and is currently working towards licensure in Florida.
Julia has experience working with clients with trauma history, substance use issues, as well as numerous mental health disorders. Julia is a patient practitioner who will meet you where you are and will assist you in moving in the direction of your goals at a comfortable and client-directed pace. Whether you, or your child, are in need of working through significant and complex trauma, or simply interested in functioning more effectively in relationships or in a school or peer environment, Julia is ready to assist you on that journey.
At this point in time, Julia is in the process of adding a canine member to her team and sometime in the future being able to offer pet-assisted therapy.
