"I am all about the connection - first, in establishing a strong, open, and caring connection with a client or couple. And then helping them grow the important connections in their lives - with family, perhaps a life partner, cherished values, work and community."

Mark Anderson, Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Certified EMDR therapist; Couple and Family Counselor

I love people.  I love listening and talking to people.  A really good day for me is one spent being completely present with clients as they get in touch with their hurts, their joys, their fears and frustrations, their deep satisfaction, their confusion, beliefs and passion.

With over twenty years in the counseling field, I've long known and come to trust that I'm good for and with people.  That my presence and interest helps them to find their curiosity and their courage to turn over both old and newer stones to find the things that get in their way as they seek to build fulfilling lives grounded in values, personal connections, and internal harmony.

A trained and highly experienced family systems therapist, I see my clients - individuals, couples, and families - as both unique in themselves and as grounded in the contexts of their current families and families of origin, their friendships and romantic attachments, their faith communities and their work affiliations.  It's in our various contexts that we live and strive, suffer and rejoice, run from and return to, and find meaning, purpose and comfort.  And it's in these contexts that we need to be continually stretching ourselves, acquiring and using new tools to listen, to understand, and to communicate caring and respect.

I bring together a variety of theoretical perspectives in addition to family systems: Strengths and solution- focused, Cognitive-behavioral, Narrative, Emotion-focused, and Trauma-informed.  I am a Certified EMDR Practitioner and continue to find many ways to achieve economies in treatment using this revolutionary model, both in cases of "big T" trauma and regarding relational trauma, as well as in therapy for compulsive behaviors, OCD and other conditions.

And spiritual development and integration are important to many of us.  While I never urge my personal beliefs on others, for those who want to incorporate biblical wisdom and Christian spiritual guidance, I am very experienced in this area.  For those who come from other spiritual traditions, I am very comfortable in helping them explore their own beliefs and their chosen wisdom literature, as they relate to the client's treatment goals.

I look forward to the chance to discuss how I can help you be your very best.
