Anger can sneak up on you. Some people find that they cannot control their strong need to lash out at others in anger. I believe that it is important to learn to recognize when you are becoming angry. Once you learn to recognize your anger, you will be better able to use pre-determined tools and methods for staying calm and working with a situation. I use a combination of biofeedback techniques, as well as distress tolerance skills learned through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I provide anger management in both individual and couple therapy sessions as well as offer an eight week anger management program. In my experience people with anger management issues benefit best by doing the classes first and then follow up with therapy after they have learned the necessary skills. Therapy provides on-going skill practice and reinforcement and if needed an opportunity to go deeper. I have separate groups for adults (over 21) and teens (14-20)

Anger is a wonderful emotion. It is an emotion that tells us that all is not right in the world and something needs to change. Unfortunately, most of us do not experience anger in the way it was meant to be experienced and it becomes scary and threatening to us. I can help you understand and use your anger to heal and to become a more caring and thoughtful human, I can also help you deal with those angry people in your life in a healthy way.
Sher Ireland, M.Ed., M.S., CCDC, L.P.C.
The feeling of anger is simply that- a feeling. The difficulty with anger is not the feeling but how we often act out the feeling. I help people find alternative ways of expressing anger which are not destructive, and explore the many feelings which anger often covers up. There are many reasons why people are angry and sometimes people may benefit from understanding how the anger got started. In other cases, people need to learn to forgive themselves and others. Knowing how to effectively express anger can literally change a person's life and all of their relationships. I teach the difference between aggression and assertiveness and have people practice effective techniques.
Aaron Potratz, LPC, MA, CADC-I
Anger is response many people use to combat unwanted feelings and cope with difficult life situations. It is typically a result of inability to identify or express these feelings in a healthy way, and can be helped by learning to become more aware of your own self - thoughts, feelings, and actions. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy is useful for anger management because it addresses these contributing factors and seeks to replace negative thoughts and behaviors with realistic and more positive ones. It may feel like anger is impossible to control, but with my help we can discover together how doable it can be for you to finally control it and have better relationships as a result!

Anger is the one emotion that all of us feel, but few people recognize. It has been said that all roads lead to anger, which for many people this is the 'default' reaction to fear, pain, or anxiety. If you are a tired of blowing up, flying off the handle, raging...I can help you not only stop the angry outbursts, but resolve the root issues of 'why' you get angry.
