I treat anger management with a combination of therapy and neurofeedback. Therapy can help you deal with your anger but many times does not stop the anger. A combination of neurofeedback and therapy can calm your nervous system and prevent the anger in the first place. Neurofeedback is a painless mind body therapy that trains you to control your brainwaves and is used by many psychologists, doctors and therapists in the US and Europe.

I find that suppressed rage and chronic anger is usually a by-product of past trauma and hurt that has been made unconscious and can be a major impediment in connecting to oneself and others. It can also be very destructive in relationships. I find that hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool in healing this as the person will be able to connect with the old beliefs and accompanying emotions that were formed earlier in the life.

Some strategies that we may explore include finding ways to induce relaxation (through breathing and visualization exercises, yoga, meditation), examining negative thought patterns (ones that cause us to be angry), and problem-solving ways to prevent and/or keep anger at bay, so that it does not continue to disrupt daily life. Anger is an umbrella emotion, it often is expressed first even though the real emotion is hurt, fear, loneliness, or despair. Yet if you are willing to go below the surface and explore the real wounds and destructive patterns behind the rage, I have witnessed remarkable progress (in a fairly short amount time) for men and women, youth and adults, from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Change is difficult as new behavior patterns are formed and old negative thought patterns are reprogrammed, but I believe peace and the ability to appropriately handle upsetting and emotional situations is available to anyone who wants it and is open to make some changes in their life.

Anger, a common human emotions that when not understood and managed can led to down fall. Understanding ones anger, the reasons for it and how to effectively cope with make a positive difference, allowing one to use anger as a tool not destruction. Often times anger is prompted by fear, anxiety or sadness. It is rarely a stand alone emotion. This is especially true in children. The relationships that child has can support or diminish the undesirable behavior. I look at how families can change interactions for the better.
