Stress & Anxiety

Philip Kolba, MA

Psychotherapist

Everyone experiences anxiety at some point, but for some the anxiety is so frequent or intense that it interferes with their lives or even triggers panic attacks. I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help my clients get a sense of control over their own anxiety. We collaborate to learn skills to reduce the frequency or intensity of the anxious feelings, to tolerate the anxiety when it does occur so they can still function through it, and to practice habits that reduce stress and improve general mental health.

Dr. Beverly Wright, (M.Div., M.Th.)

Licensed Clinical Christian Counselor

1629 K Street, N.W., Suite 300, Washington, DC 20006

Anxiety and stress go hand in hand. Anxiety is a customary reaction to a stressful situation. But, in some cases it becomes excessive and can cause sufferers to dread everyday situations. Stress is a reality for all of us. But, it does not have to overwhelm us. Some people may have a genetic predisposition to anxiety. Early traumatic experiences can also reset the body's normal fear-processing system so that it is hyper-reactive to stress. The goal would be to; rid the exaggerated worries and negative outcomes in unknown situations. I will counsel you on the many ways to reduce the amount of stress in your life, along with techniques to adjust your reaction to those factors.

Stress & Anxiety

Angela Sarafin, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

316 F Street NE, Suite 212, Washington, DC 20002

Anxiety can be overcome. There are many causes of anxiety and rather than trying to make the anxiety disappear, it is often more helpful to learn how to function in spite of the feeling. Most people have some area of life in which they experience exceptions - where the anxiety is either not present or where the anxiety is just a little bit different. We can use those exceptions to strengthen your ability to manage anxiety in other areas of life. We will also explore the positive sides of anxiety - how it serves to protect you and whether those protections are still relevant for your current life.

Kevin Fleming Ph.D.

Coach/Change Agent/Consultant

While most treatment approaches for anxiety and stress are effective on the surface, they don’t treat the real problem. Mantras, deep breathing, and rational dialogues about your fear being irrational rarely work---for most people don’t believe it or you! Imagine if you can trick the brain into changing without you telling your conscious mind that you are changing it? Problem with anxiety and stress is that the brain in this state knows you want to change it and it resists. Contact Kevin@kevinfleminphd.com for the ultimate stress and anxiety solution that will literally change your brain's autonomic nervous system patterns while you sit on your butt. 877-606-6161.
