Experiencing grief and loss can be very isolating and deeply painful. So much so, that one will try not to think about it, but that doesn’t work, because everywhere he/she turns there’s another reminder. In effort to stop thinking about the pain, one stops talking about the loss. However, this is the most harmful thing one can do to him/herself. It is trapping emotions, it is poisonous. I invite you to release those emotions, to allow yourself to breathe, and fully engage in a healthy grieving process.

Are you suffering from feelings of grief. loss, and sadness. These feelings can result from the many changes that we experience throughout our lives. They can stem from the death of a loved one, from experiencing separation from your spouse, or partner, or going through a divorce. Going through these losses often leads to numerous other changes, such as being a single-parent. Losses also arise from moving, and from changes in a stage of your life such as having all of your children move out of the home - that "empty nest" stage, or from retiring from your job. I can help you manage these feelings so that they don't take over your life!! I can help you move on with your life. Call me today.
Michael Govan, MA, LLP, LPC, LSGC, EMDR II
I know personally what it is to experience loss. My clients sense I can relate to their unique situation, and are surprised to learn about the User-Friendly tools that help each person to maximize their recovery in a short period of time!!! I help them to determine their losses from the event and the feelings associated with these losses. Then we examine the consequences of the loss-feeling combinations. Often we use EMDR from there to settle the feelings and turn around any negative self-belief that has arisen from the losses. This turns out to be a fairly quick process even for those who have years of grief over their loss(es).

The most difficult part of life is experiencing the loss of a loved one. Nothing we experience is more painful than this. Despite this often incapacitating pain, with work and time, one can heal and overcome. When this occurs, one emerges from the pain as a new person, in ways that one could not formerly conceive. A large part of my work is guiding people through this process, as I am deeply familiar with it, both personally and professionally.

The experience of a Loss can be devestating and cause one to become grief stricken. Denial, anger, guilt and grief are natural reactions to a loss. However, one must transistion from one stage to another in order to properly grieve. If you are unable to transistion and have become overwhelmed by grief, therapy can assist you with accepting your loss and properly dealing with your grief.

The experience of being grief stricken is one of the most overwhelming feelings possible. It is important to realize that grief is a very natural process that allows us to heal. It does not normally require treatment, unless there is some interference in the process. Failure to mourn fully is what causes difficulties, namely depression. A healthy bout of mourning involves our dosing ourselves with intermittent grief and tears, interspersed with periods of feeling a bit better. If there are plenty of tears but no gradual lessening of the pain, the person is likely depressed. Therapy is often then essential to help free the individual so that they can recover.

Grief therapy aims to help people cope with grief and mourning following the death of loved ones, or with major life changes that trigger feelings of grief (e.g., divorce, major illness).
Everyone experiences and expresses grief in their own way, often shaped by culture. They believe that it is not uncommon for a person to withdraw from their friends and family and feel helpless; some might be angry. One can expect a wide range of emotion and behavior associated with grief. We believe that in all places and cultures, the grieving person benefits from the support of others.
