About Coquitlam, B.C.

The city of Coquitlam was first inhabited by the Coast Salish people who came to the area in 1808.  By the late 1860’s the European settlers had found the area and began to inhabit the area as well.  Coquitlam became known as “the place in between” with a road that was built to service the ports of New Westminster and Port Moody.  This road provided easier access to the area and it formally became a municipality in 1891. There is a diverse population here, with mixed religious backgrounds, the primary one being Christian.
