Diane K. Schmidt, Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker, stands out among therapists because of the breadth of life experience she brings to her clients. As well as solid therapeutic work in her practice, years of working in the business world gave her a deep understanding of the struggles faced by working women.
She incorporates principles of Brain Science into her practice. It teaches us that our level of emotional intelligence is influenced by how our parents responded to us as children when we were upset. Based on these interactions we learned to handle our emotions in a healthy way – or not. The result is that we can be ruled by our emotions rather than using our awareness of them to enhance our behavior and relationships. These insights provide a basis for Diane to help those who are caught up in their emotions, so they can learn new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Coupled with this is her firm belief in Stephen Covey’s statement that unexpressed emotions that get buried, will manifest themselves later in uglier forms.
Now, with heart and compassion for those who are hurting, she provides a safe space for women to explore and heal those childhood emotional responses and the unexpressed emotions that may accompany them. Her calm demeanor, sense of humor, excellent listening skills and sensitivity to women’s feelings, create a nurturing atmosphere where they can break down the invisible walls that separate them from what they want.
Diane holds a Bachelors Degree in Business and Public Administration and a Masters Degree in Social Work. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), The American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), and the Grief Support Network.
