Katherine L Hammons, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been providing counseling to families, couples and individuals for over 13 years. She has great compassion for working with women's issues including motherhood, parenting, anxiety, transition and grief.
Education: Katherine graduated from East Carolina University with an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, and completed her Master's in Counseling from the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, at the Citadel, located in Charleston, SC.
She approaches therapy with kindness and warmth, while simultaneously integrating her training in psychology and counseling with a Christian Worldview.
Early in her career she worked at a Child Advocacy Center where she was trained in providing:
- Forensic Assessments-an extensive interviewing protocol designed to identify alleged risk of abuse in children. She interviewed approximately 500 children during this time.
- TF-CBT- (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
- Expert Witness testimony in the court setting
However, once she had a family of her own, she found it important to model the balanced life she had been encouraging her clients to follow, and so, she transitioned to private practice in 2006.
Katherine started her own counseling practice in Mount Pleasant, SC, specializing in (but did not limited herself to) the areas of:
- Adult survivors
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions
- Identity and Self Esteem
- Family and Parenting Issues
- Anxiety, Boundaries and Stress
- Adolescent Concerns
- Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples
Two years later she helped birth the creation of Life Resources, LLC, a group practice, located in the same area. It was during this time her personal scope of practice also grew, and she found couples counseling an added component to the populations she had success and a passion for serving.
Today, drawing from her many years of training and experience, Katherine continues to work with clients, specializing in the areas listed above. She currently practices in Johns Creek and Alpharetta.
Katherine is a certified Prepare-Enrich Provider, and is able to facilitate this nationally recognized protocol for couples considering marriage as well as those looking to increase the quality of their current martial relationship.
She completed Level 1-EFT training, for couples, the most scientifically proven successful model to date for couples counseling.
She recently completed the CS Lewis Atlanta 2014-2015 Fellows Program and currently serves as a Mentor within the organization. She finds volunteering with her daughter's Wyldlife Bible Study a great way to round out her passion for theology, people and community.
Katherine is currently welcoming new clients and looks forward to hearing from you!
