I graduated from Bowie State University in Okinawa, Japan with my M.A. in Counseling in 2009.  My program had a multicultural basis and I am specifically educated in viewing issues through the lens of culture.  Most of my experience is in stress and anger management including work with clients in high-stress positions (military, police, first responders).  I have a substantial background in multicultural counseling and enjoy working with people of all ages, cultures, lifestyles and genders.  I enjoy helping clients of all backgrounds find their own path to health, healing and happiness.
I provide individual, couples and family counseling for a variety of life's challenges including counseling through and after a divorce in order to ensure constructive co-parenting relationships.  I have successfully assisted many married couples in working together to transform their relationships through communication, acceptance and understanding.  I often use Family Systems Therapy to help couples understand how their individual family backgrounds contribute to the relationship, which couples often find interesting, informative and beneficial.  It is amazing how many pre-determined factors influence our relationships without us even realizing it!
I specialize in PTSD, trauma, anxiety and anger management and assist clients using Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and other techniques in a humanistic, person-centered setting.  I also help families of traumatized loved ones to understand and support each other through the healing process, including those who are adjusting to the changes associated with disability or impairment.
One of my passions is working with individuals and families who struggle with the family disease of addiction, including adult children of alcoholics and addicts.  Substance abuse is a far-reaching family issue which affects the relationships of anyone who has been touched by it.  Clients sometimes find it surprising that even addiction issues from prior generations of their families continue to affect them today!  I have helped many discover the possibility of a healthier, happier, more peaceful life even while dealing with alcoholism and addiction.  I also provide guided 12-step work for a variety of issues which many find beneficial.
I provide life stress assessments for clients who are interested in finding out more about stress management, including clients who have found it necessary to reduce the stress in their lives but don't know where to start.  Even those who don't wish to confront issues in therapy can always benefit from stress reduction and/or management.
I am an Army veteran and served in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq as well as working with Marines, Navy personnel, and their families as a counselor.  I am familiar with issues particular to deployment and separation as well as the wide range of stress-producing challenges of military life.  In my spare time, I assist and advocate for fellow veterans including military discharge appeals and benefit claims assistance for veterans with PTSD.
Feel free to contact me for more information.  I look forward to meeting you!
