As a therapist, I started working with addict's population since 2011. For many of them, overcoming addictions has been constant struggles. Many of them belief that their clean time is a process that can be described as one day at a time. I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with integrative approach to help addicts regain control over their lives. CBT is evidenced-based therapeutic approach that is being found to be effective in dealing with negative thoughts. There are coping skills interventions for relapse prevention in combination with group psycho-education that help prevent relapse for the struggling addicts.

Addictions (substance or behavioral) are often coping mechanisms you developed early in life to help you deal with anxiety, sadness, feeling like you don't fit in, feeling you don't matter, feeling powerless, or for numbing the pain of being criticized, abandoned, neglected, abused or traumatized in some other way. Traumatic events or a life time of upsetting events are often the root cause of addiction. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist with extensive experience in helping adults heal from and put in the past the upsetting events that contribute to their addiction. EMDR Therapy is highly effective and is offered at all the leading residential treatment programs for addiction recovery.

I work a lot with clients who are dealing with addictions - whether it be to a substance, food, work, or relationships. While the specific content of an addiction might be a mystery to friends and family (they might have never used heroine) the experience of addiction is common to us all. We all, from time to time, have tried to use something or someone to make us feel better. At the core, that is what an addiction is. However, the problem it that it only works in the short run - in the long run when we use substances or people to distract us from our problems or pain, we end up crashing. I help people deal with the core issue so that they can live a purposeful, meaningful, joyful life.

While I do not treat addictions specifically, I do work with the partners, family members, and other loved ones of people who suffer from an addiction. Even if you did not have issues before getting involved with someone who has an addiction, that alone will make you feel like you are crazy. I specialize in treating co-dependence and helping people get their lives back from their addicted loved one. I am familiar with the 12-step programs as well as the dynamics that people experience while in relationship with someone addicted to alcohol, sex/porn, and others.

Addictions come in all shapes and sizes: addictions to food, drugs, alcohol, shopping, etc.. We are all familiar with the experience of using something to make us feel better, to get rid of a pain. The problem lies in when this momentary attempt to feel better becomes a habitual way of living; when our only coping mechanism (food, substances, sex...) becomes the trap that we live in. I assist people in identifying and working through the root cause of the addiction, the wound that began it all, in order to find freedom and health once again.
