Gabriel Newman, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

2328 W Joppa Road, Suite 10, Lutherville, Maryland 21093

We use sandbox and play therapy to provide the young with alternatives in creative expression, and to let them know that there is a safe holding place where their fears can be confronted, and respected. Often, we also help the children best by helping the parents find peaceful ways to reach common ground on child-rearing practices and responses. The most crucial element is to treat a child, not a diagnosis or condition.

Robert Castle, M.S., LCPC, NCC

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Collaborative Counseling, LLC, 744 Dulaney Valley Road, STE 7, Towson, Maryland 21204

Young children who are dealing with emotional distress, often expressed in behavior, will look to primary caregivers (parents, adoptive parents/guardians) for emotional support and nurturance. The young person’s emotional/behavioral symptoms could be co-occurring with or caused by differences in parenting styles, adjustment to divorce, co-parenting arrangements, death/loss/ grief adjustments, and other stressors in the home, school, or environment. While I do not provide individual therapy for young children, I offer my skills, training and experience in family therapy to help parents/caregivers foster an effective, calm, at-ease rapport with their children, sometimes including family therapy with children present.

Dane Wendell, LCPC

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

600 Wyndhurst Ave, suite 112, Baltimore, Maryland 21210

My primary goal of working with children and adolescents is to focus on strengths and build upon those strengths. Instead of focusing on problems, which can be exhausting and emotionally draining, I like to build on the strengths of individuals in order to empower and encourage them to make positive changes in their lives. The more they are able to recognize their own past solutions the easier it is for them to repeat those solutions in order to achieve their goals, as opposed to having another adult tell them what to do.

Family coaching is very popular. More and more parents whose child is being bullied in school or in the neighborhood. Many times, their child has difficulty expressing his or her feelings and will begin to manifest somatic complaints such as stomachaches, headaches, school refusal, and/or acting out in school. Play therapy is one way to address bullying. We provide psychoeducational testing for children with behavior and or learning problems.

Deborah Cole, Psy.D.

5525 Twin Knolls Rd. #331, Columbia, Maryland 21045

I have seen at least 1000 children and adolescents. Each one is different! Many have had learning disabilities, and many have had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Some have had Trichtoillomania (compulsive hair pulling), or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Tourettes. With these a behavior therapy approach has been most useful. For younger children, I use play therapy as well as parent consultations. Parents need to be involved but they also usually need to allow the child to talk freely. for play therapy, I use puppets and/or drawing activities at the little table and chairs in my office. I might need to assess the child formally to determine any learning problems.

Many times, child therapists overdo the family system in their quest to seek effective solutions for emotional, learning or behavioral concerns with young children. And many times doctors overpathologize issues that shouldn’t be medicated necessarily. This leaves parents wondering what is the best route for their child? Introducing brainwave optimization technology. A fast, effective, natural, and less expensive way to allow your child's brain to make the optimizing changes it desires to make---on its own! Without any external force, opinion, medication, diagnostic, etc. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or 877-606-6161.
