I work with children ages 6 and above. Empowerment is crucial in all therapy and what better time to learn self-empowerment than while still young. My doctoral dissertation involved Redecision Therapy. In this model the child ego state is where most therapeutic treatment is done. Children are not just small adults. Children can be both fragile and resilient. For children under the age of 6, I recommend play therapy, however I do not practice this mode of counseling. I teach the diagnosing of children in a graduate course I have taught about 8 semesters. Diagnoses is just a starting point however. Labels can be self-fulfilling and while important are wrought with dangers. Conservative wisdom.
