When life drains you and leaves you feeling overwhelmed and without energy, counseling can help. Therapy can help you explore the issues that are weighing you down and help you find ways to cope with pain and fear that may be holding you back. Sometimes, we get caught into patterns of negativity and therapy can help change these patterns and let you see new possibilities. Self esteem and positive feelings can be cultivated and enhanced. Hope, energy, and passion can be restored through the counseling process.

Depression is a common condition that affects 14.8 million American adults annually (National Institute of Mental Health), There are a number of available treatment options. If medication is needed, I will provide appropriate referrals. I work with clients to identify and change negative thinking underlying their depression and explore past experiences that can be a contributing factor. I create a safe, non-judgmental place for clients to explore their feelings, heal, and feel joy once again.

No matter how bad things seem, there are times when your depression is not as severe or not as controlling. Using a solution focused approach we will focus on past successes as opposed to harping on the negative times with the objective of finding times when your happier, even if it is just a little bit. Once you are able to start to recognize small positive changes, those can lead to larger changes.

Depression is linked to certain EEG patterns of cortical under-stimulation. Knowing this science provides many additional avenues of approach. But we also need to change the mental pathways that lead to depression...this is not easy, but it can be done. I felt so strongly about this, I wrote a book about it: "How to Eliminate Depression and Negative Thinking".
