Depression is a debilitating and difficult problem to deal with, because the very nature of depression can stop you from seeking help. My approach with clients living with depression is not to seek out root causes, but to attempt to break the cycle of depression through small manageable tasks. As a client you will feel safe enough to try new things in order to make living with your depression, easier and more manageable. You can get control of your life and learn to live and laugh again.

People may medicate their depression with TV, alcohol, food, isolation, or excessive sleep. One definition of depression is "anger turned inward." Talking with a psychologist is one of the best methods to understand your down moods, unusual thoughts, and self-defeating beliefs. Friends may say, "Get over it" about your jealousy toward your sister or your sadness over your girlfriend who texted "it's over" 3 months ago. If you are on medication for already-diagnosed depression, therapy is important to bring new ideas into your brain. If you are considering medication, start with talk therapy. Don't keep waiting for "it" to go away. What's at the bottom of your depression?

Everyone goes through stages of feeling sad or "blue" at different points in their lives. Such feelings are normal reactions to stressful life events, such as a break-up, loss of someone or something you care for, life transitions or even while recalling painful memories from past experiences. When the sadness becomes overwhelming and turns into hopelessness, isolation, change in sleep or appetite, and loss of energy or ability to concentrate, it is time to seek help. As your therapist, I will first help you tackle the overwhelming feelings to find some relief. From there, we will work towards gaining effective tools and using support systems to manage symptoms and regain your life.
