Human beings develop habits, and rituals, and addictions to cope with stresses and trauma and emotional pain in living. We compulsively seek to be in control and relieve our tension. Today, eating disorders are spread throughout classes, races, ethnicity, and subcultures. Eating disorders are determined by multiple factors: individual personality traits, physiological predispositions, family patterns, critical experiences such as loss or abuse, the sociocultural influences of gender roles, and the meanings ascribed to food, weight, and appearance as well as the addictive quality of modern day foods. Family & individual therapy can help the whole family system, relieving the blame, self-degradation, & confusion for the individual and gives the family clear guidelines of how to help. The goal is to use food as nourishment & develop satisfying connections with loved ones

Whether severely restricting calories, overeating or caught in the binge/purge cycle, if some deep hurt or experience of abuse or trauma is causing you to use food to cope with hard emotions and low self esteem, my treatment approach is helpful. By examining what has happened, reconstructing beliefs and thoughts about it, strengthening your ability to assertively speak up during inner and interpersonal conflicts, and addressing other difficult emotional triggers, my clients learn how to hold strong boundaries, voice needs appropriately, repair self-esteem, and restore more control over what happens to them. You CAN transform your relationship to food. Visit my website for more detail.
