Current Initiatives

The Black Male Initiative is a program funded and implemented by the Children's Aid Society to provide support and assistance programs to young men in the African-American community. The mission of the initiative is twofold: to gain a better understanding of the issues and barriers that young black men face, and to create programs that meet the various needs of this population. A primary component of the initiative is the Steps to Success program, in which elementary school-aged boys receive academic support to improve their grades, cultural enrichment programs to learn about and take pride in their heritage, and mentoring programs in order to have a positive adult influence on their growth and development.
