They say it’s the best job in the world, and what you see online perpetuates that belief. While it is wonderful, it can be hard (and it’s completely normal to think that by the way!). But that’s not what the influencers say. Or perhaps they say that, but then you look and everyone has a matching outfit and a green smoothie. You want the best for your kids. You’ve been babyproofing, researching every sleep training method, and trying to make sure everyone is eating at least one green thing a week. But when you go out (if you go out!), you’re constantly monitoring what you are saying, how you are interacting with your child, what everyone is wearing, and the list goes on.
All of this monitoring and comparing leads to depression and anxiety. As you put these unrealistic standards on yourself, you also place them on your children. You are not doing this intentionally; this is learned behaviour. We picked this up from our caregivers and the society we live in feeds this. The great thing is, is that cycle can stop here- with the help of CBT. With CBT you will learn the tools necessary to release not only yourself, but your family from perfectionism, and self-defeating and limiting beliefs. We can even come to your local mom-group so that you can grow as a collective, and create a truly uplifting and supportive community for your family.
