Most couples entered a relationship because they appreciated and valued something in their partner. Over time, stresses and difficulties sometimes cloud a couple's vision of what drew them together. Karen's approach is to help couples rekindle their friendship and appreciation for each other, including their differences. We are passionate about and skilled with helping couples to repair and strengthen their relationship by utilizing techniques from evidence-based practices such as Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy and the Gottman Method. Individual therapy for each partner is also recommended as best practice for helping each person to work through their personal traumas.

Working with couples is extremely specialized and should only be done with a trained clinician. Please ask the right questions to ensure you are in good hands with someone who knows how to guide you. The client is the relationship - not the individuals! So an individual therapist is not the way to go here. At KML, we have a trained PSYPACT psychologist who is licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), so she can work in any PSYPACT state. This work should focus on what the couple wants for their relationship (sometimes the goal is uncoupling kindly), guiding the couple in healthy growth of the relationship, and all without shame!
