Children respond to sincerity positively. They also seem to be able to sense love. A 6 year old child recently drew a picture of me saying "I love you". Now I never told this child I loved her and I was working with her mother to increase structure in the home but she sensed this and responded to it. Her behavior improved after 3 sessions. Some children bear burdens that they should never have to bear at such a young age. One of my specializations is doing TFCBT with children. I try to create a space which is welcoming and kid-friendly. Children communicate best through play and it's through play therapy that children's emotions are fully expressed. At this point in my professional life as a psychologist I no longer directly work with young children. However, I do work with the children's parents in order to assist them in meeting the multiple challenges which can be present in a marriage, which in turn can have an effect, not only on the emotional well-being of the children, but on themselves as well.
