Depression takes such an intense toll not only in the quality of our life but also of those that live around us. I approach Depression as I do any other "feeling state". Simply, everyone experiences the same emotions, as mentioned above in the paragraph about grief. As unpleasant as it seems, I believe that it MUST have a purpose and once that purpose is satisfied the feeling goes back into the background until it is needed again. Though I do not prescribe, and I prefer a "meds-free" environment, I encourage the use of medications for a while in order to stabilize things. I've been told that the combination of meds and traditional talk-therapy seems to work very well for a lot of people. My focus is positive and I encourage the same from my clients.
