It is now a public park, but still has standing buildings from the war. There are several private schools in the area, including the Tyler Catholic School system, King's Academy Christian School, Grace Community School, Christian Heritage School, Good Shepherd Reformed Episcopal School, All Saints Episcopal School, and the East Texas Christian Academy, to name a few. Tyler has an annual Rose Festival that brings in thousands of tourists and is held in October, featuring a parade, coronation of the Rose Queen, and other events.1 There is something for everyone! Family Services and Assistance Programs

Families in need of support services can turn to several local government agencies for the assistance they need to improve family functioning, mental health, and physical functioning. The Texas Department of State Health Services promotes good mental health by providing information and resources about common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.4 The City of Tyler's Neighborhood Services program offers many educational and support programs to help families improve their functioning. Their Fatherhood Initiative program provides area fathers with valuable tips for being a positive role model and being actively involved in his child's upbringing. Additionally, the city provides financial assistance programs to low and moderate-income families who cannot afford food, clothing, utility bills and other vital resources. By providing funding, information and support, the city ensures that families can focus their energies on overcoming barriers that cause poverty, homelessness and poor mental health.
