The Veterans Housing Project is an initiative that seeks to help veterans and their families find suitable housing after discharge from the armed forces. To meet demand for housing and to revitalize neighborhoods in Eugene, the initiative focuses on rehabilitating distressed properties at a low cost. Local utilities are involved in supporting the effort, and provide subsidized water, electricity, and gas. The initiative also includes wraparound services that address social and emotional difficulties. Veterans can participate in substance abuse and mental health counseling, employment training, and financial planning classes as well.5
