Many people comment on how easy it is to talk with me and how my style and
approach to therapy is different than their prior counseling experiences. I view my clients as mentally healthy individuals having understandable
reactions to upsetting, disappointing or difficult aspects of life. As a
former marketing management professional with many years experience in the corporate world prior to changing careers to become a psychotherapist, I take an active,
conversational, results-oriented approach to working with clients. My approach draws upon my business
skills as a problem solver and change agent along with my experience, skills
and knowledge of psychotherapy, coaching and counseling.
My style as a counselor is to communicate with you in my natural conversational style and to be my genuine self. I believe the more open and genuine I am in our conversations, the easier it is for you to feel comfortable and open with me. I have a positive attitude and upbeat energy and I love the work I do. I am grateful for the privilege of hearing clients stories and helping them heal, grow and feel better about themselves and their future. Much of our distress in life is due to a lack of genuine connection with
ourselves and with others. When you increase your understanding and acceptance
of yourself and how you relate to others, you are better able to achieve a
sense of well-being and move through difficulties. Various life experiences
from childhood through the present, can compromise your ability to be yourself
or lead you to repeat behaviors that no longer serve you well in your personal
life or at work. Often people think that these early experiences are no big deal or are no longer influencing them, however they are surprised at how much better they feel after we do some brief, focused work on these experiences.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy(EMDR) - People who have tried years of therapy and many approaches to resolve anxiety, depression, self-confidence issues or other obstacles, often gain relief, insight, get unstuck, and heal from distressing experiences in a relatively short time with EMDR therapy.
EMDR is a proven, safe, whole brain approach to therapy that facilitates the brain's natural process for reprocessing and resolving memories of upsetting events that affect our behaviors and how we feel about ourselves. EMDR works much faster than traditional talk therapy or coaching, because it is based on the science of how the brain stores and processes memories of upsetting experiences. What is a Certified EMDR Therapist?
I have earned the designation of an EMDR International Association Certified EMDR therapist which is only granted to EMDR therapists who have documented additional training, case consultation and client experience beyond the basic Level I & II training required to offer EMDR. EMDR is much more than a technique and to get the best results requires a therapist who uses EMDR effectively on a regular basis with a range of clients and client issues. Each year, I also attend EMDR continuing education classes to stay up-to-date with the latest and best practices in EMDR and trauma work. When appropriate, I incorporate EMDR memory processing to help clients reduce their distress and feel better about themselves.
Career Counseling and Job Search Coaching - I have worked as a Career Counselor and Job Search Career Coach at leading MBA schools in the country and at a global outplacement firm serving employees of Fortune 500 firms. I have also developed and taught career management and job search skills workshops.
