I have a great need to protect children. I feel most children are vulnerable to the complexities of the adult world. I feel children heal faster and grow emotionally regarding their age developmental goals when the parents are fully invested in taking care of themselves. I offer parent training classes, and psychotherapy for adults for whom themselves struggled as children, which in turn, helps their child to reach his/her maximum potential.

I have worked with a 4 year old child of divorced parents. These children are at risk for "disorganized attachment", a precursor to childhood separation anxiety. I feel the therapist needs perfect rapport to work with such a delicate situation. I use drawing, cartoons, CD's, dancing, and cookies. I may wish to consult with an MD. If the child tends to disassociate from reality, I'm afraid a child psychiatrist would need to be brought in.

Like adults, a child’s behavior can change when (s)he is feeling stressed out. Common symptoms are suddenly seeming withdrawn, worried, stressed, sulky or tearful. Therapy can help kids improve their problem-solving skills and also teach them the value of seeking help. The kinds of problems that are addressed include: school stress (homework, bullying or peer pressure), family issues (parents fighting, impending divorce or other transitions like a loss, move or serious illness). If you feel your child might have an emotional or behavioral problem or needs help coping with a difficult life event, trust your instincts and call for a consultation.

Children are a wonderful gift to a family - the world is brand new to them, and they bring with them a unique way of seeing and experiencing life experiences for the first time. It can, however, be challenging sometimes to understand why they do the things that they do. Sometimes, it can even be frustrating when they don't meet our expectations, or worse, it seems they don't even want to try. I like to work with children and understand the issues they are dealing with, and ultimately help them respond more positively to the requests and direction of their parents and educators.

I am a retired teacher who taught parenting for twenty five years and have a child development background. I work with parents developing skills to add in helping with discipline, school performance, and social skills. I listen to children and use art and play therapy to identify unconscious problems that may be causing stress or that may have occurred outside of the parents knowledge or understanding.

Parenting is one of the most challenging (and one of the most joyful) tasks of adulthood. I do not see children separately from their parents as I do not believe that I should become a quasi-additional parent. Parenting belongs to the parents. However, I do provide parent education, coaching and support for the adults in the family and family therapy when it would be helpful. I have run parent study groups for many years and am the founder of the Amherst Family Center, a support drop in center for parents of children from birth - 5. You know when something is wrong with your child. It can be a divorce, a school or family problem. But, if your child is hurting, then your are hurting. Children require a therapist with special skills. I have extensive training in many forms of play therapy. Children are not able to communicate in the usual way. With play, their defenses are down and they can relate in a natural way. We have games, sand trays, art supplies, etc that are age appropriate for your child. As a mother of four children I understand your concerns and will do my best to help your child heal from the stresses they are experiencing. I know how precious your child is to you.

When a child struggles, a parent struggles's 10x more. Sometimes, we just don't know what to do make it better. I can help. Issues children experience such as, anger, low self-esteem, being bullied, prolonged nightmares, discipline problems are best addressed when they occur. Together, we will help your child work through the problem. I believe you, the parent are the best resource for solutions. Who knows your child better than you? I will provide you support and methods/tools to continue helping your child at home. I incorporate Sand Tray and Play therapy techniques in our sessions, as these work well with young children who have difficulty communicating what's bothering them.

Many times, child therapists overdo the family system in their quest to seek effective solutions for emotional, learning or behavioral concerns with young children. And many times doctors overpathologize issues that shouldn’t be medicated necessarily. This leaves parents wondering what is the best route for their child? Introducing brainwave optimization technology. A fast, effective, natural, and less expensive way to allow your child's brain to make the optimizing changes it desires to make---on its own! Without any external force, opinion, medication, diagnostic, etc. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 877-606-6161.
