The Extraordinary Bond Between People and Pets

April 4, 2015 07:55 by Cindy Ariel,Phd  [About the Author]

pets
Pets offer important social and emotional support to their adoptive family members. According to the American Humane Society, 164 million or 62% of American households included at least one pet in 2012. Research published by the American Psychological Association found that pet owners can be just as close to some of the people in their lives as to their pets. Because the bond can be so vital, lack of compassion regarding the loss of a pet can interfere with the healthy mourning process for many grieving pet owners. [More]

praise

When this occurs, human beings go into crisis. (Buber, 1958). When this happens before the developmental stages reach adulthood, the chronicity of loneliness becomes a set up for addiction. 3 6questions
The science behind the “36 questions” that are the key to romance has been widely misrepresented. March 30, 2015 07:55 by Juliana Fruhling,MA-MFT, RCC  [About the Author]

ageing
Midlife, also known as middle-age, is by far the longest period of a person's life, due to a recent increase in lifespan thanks to healthier lifestyles and advances in medical care, but sadly it is commonly depicted in a negative light in our culture, especially during the post-parental period of midlife (McGoldrick, Carter & Garcia-Preto, 2011).
