Any addiction is a primary disease. It has to be dealt with first. If it isn’t, no psychological healing or spiritual growth can happen. I encourage abstinence from your addictive substance or process. People benefit from desensitizing Relapse Triggers, healing memories and tools to avoid relapse. Psychotherapy with me includes these, but goes much further. I believe all addictions are symptoms of addiction to our thoughts. Example, “I need…, I want…”. It is repeatedly thinking the same thought in spite of its negative consequences. We break this cycle with tools:present moment awareness, noticing your real needs, shifting negative core beliefs and using a plan of recovery.

Addictions come in many forms and can wreak havoc in all aspects of your life and relationships. Admitting that a part of your life has become unmanageable takes humility and courage. Hypnotherapy, counseling, and meditation all serve to develop the self-awareness needed to shift out of old coping patterns and stop numbing painful emotions. When recovering from an addiction, you will learn how to tolerate your feelings and face your life with dignity and truth. I honor and respect the courage it takes to ask for help. When you are ready to bring your life back into integrity, I am here to assist you. I look forward to the opportunity to work together. Take the next step!

My addiction works focuses on food and alcohol. We turn to substances and food because we are experiencing things or feelings that we don't have the skills to cope with. Once we develop awareness around our behaviors and how they are impacting our lives, we can focus on what triggers us to perform those behaviors. Understanding the triggers and then learning new ways to cope with those triggers is the heart of my addictions work.

For addictions counseling, I use an attachment based approach along with a Christian perspective to the recovery process. People form attachments to many things in this world and drugs and alcohol can be especially difficult due to the physical cravings through the mind and body. I will help you detach from the desires of drugs and alcohol and help you get re-oriented toward a more positive path in life . This will usually be in the form of becoming attached to something that gives you life, hope and enjoyment. Some examples include activities such as fishing, camping and hiking, spending time outdoors, or finding a hobby that gives you a sense of awakening from within.

The goal for any client struggling with addiction issues is not just sobriety, but learning to cope with life's challenges without using drugs, alcohol or some other "distraction" to avoid the pain of life. Using the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, changing our distorted and negative thoughts and behavior, we are able to stop avoiding and remain "in the moment" and begin to live the life that we deserve and desire.

While most treatment approaches to addiction include 12 step programs, rehabs, and now sober living houses, Grey Matters International, Inc. provides a wildly successful alternative to traditional models of addiction treatment----that keeps the brain in mind. That is, talking to the conscious brain while the primal brain is deciding things even before you are consciously aware? Well, that is the problem to solve in addiction. We have the solution utilizing a new cutting edge neuroscience-centered brain rebalancing system. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or call 877-606-6161.
