Though I am not an addictions counselor, I do often assist people who are going through addiction treatment surrounding diagnoses that may be exacerbating their drug and alcohol use. If you feel you are self-medicating something more than just addiction, we will help you to find better tools to deal with your issues and therapeutic needs.

I have eleven years experience facilitating groups using The Genesis Process for the Prevention of Relapse of Addictive and Compulsive Behaviors, developed by Michael Dye. This is a biblically-based approach using cognitive behavior therapy and motivational interviewing. I do not provide services to people who are actively using drugs or alcohol, and encourage them to seek therapy with a specialized treatment center. I offer support services to help maintain sobriety and to family members and friends who want to actively support someone with an addiction. The Genesis Process is effective for people who have other types of unhealthy habits they want to change.

Addictions can absolutely destroy our lives. Even if it doesn't, it will at least cause major anxiety, strain our relationships, and negatively affect our careers. I have extensive experience working with individuals who struggle with many types of addictions including substance addictions and sexual addictions. You will not be judged, but you will be challenged. If you have an addiction, overcoming it may be the most difficult thing you have ever done at this point in your life, but if we work together..."YOU CAN DO IT!"

Clients to engage our services can expect extensive use of SFBT. This approach has proven to be successful in the past. Specifically, our primary focus is early-detection as well as after-care treatment. Our niche has been on helping businesses and employees reduce productivity through: 1) Screening 2) Brief Intervention 3) Referral to Treatment and Follow-Up Our clients benefit from evidenced-based protocols which lead behavioral change based on a clinical approach to risk assessment. This is followed by methodical care management based on the severity or complexity of the addition. Motivational Interviewing constitutes a major component of our successful brief intervention client outcomes

1990's research shows that 75% - 90% of addictive behavior stems from 1) Genetics/DNA/; 2) ACOA - Adult Child of an Alcoholic Syndrome; 3) ACES - Adverse Childhood Experience Score. 10 questions - "In your home before the age of 18, did . . .?" with 10 Y or N answers regarding neglect, verbal/ physical/ sexual abuse, domestic violence, abandonment / divorce/ prison, addictions, mental health. These 3 items do not "give an excuse" but definitely can give a reason & fill in a lot of blanks that heretofore have been a mysterious fog in blundering along in addictions. Do you have 1, 2, or all 3 of the items listed? You can't change the past; but, there is help now and hope for a better future.

Addiction often leads to increased emotional pain, isolation from family members and friends, loss of employment and homelessness. So, the benefits of addiction treatment would seem obvious,. But, there are less obvious benefits to treating this pervasive chronic health condition. Treatment leads to better health care outcomes by reducing emergency room visits that result from impulsive risky behaviors associated with addiction. It also reduces the likelihood of involvement or reinvolvement in the criminal justice system. Addiction counseling teaches the addict skills to stop using substances and avoid relapse. It improves motivation for recovery, encourages reintegration into the commun

You may recognize that your behavior has become unhealthy, but maybe traditional recovery isn't for you. I've worked in numerous settings with individuals recovering from drugs, alcohol, and other compulsive behaviors. There are a variety of effective approaches to addiction beyond the 12-step model. We can work together to understand your unique circumstances and develop a plan that is workable for you. Addiction is complicated and often can become life-threatening. Working with an experience, trained professional who is non-judgmental can help you gain mastery over triggers and other factors that contribute to your addiction.
