I currently see family relationships at a max of two family members present in sessions. I do not see families wanting to work on their relationships with children who are minors at this time. A family history of drinking alcohol for example is important for the client to be aware of in regards to their potential to become alcoholics. Also, patterns of anger, divorce, and abuse can be passed on from generation to generation, and it is important for the client to become aware and identify patterns verbally with the therapist to process and acknowledge these patterns for future generations. I also invite family members to be part of the session, as long as this is agreed upon by the client.
