Are you wondering if your behavior is an Addiction? Clients often seek out therapy because they feel unsure about whether or not they're addicted. Sometimes, they are sure and have realized that they can't kick the illness alone. From chemical dependency addiction, to gambling, food, sex, pornography, or relationship addiction, the disease is truly debilitating. Addictions tear families apart, causing legal and monetary issues, divorce, as well as thousands of physical fatalities every year as a side effect. Despite the prominence of addiction today, there is hope and help waiting for you! I have years of experience treating addicts and helping them regain their lives successfully.

Addiction Recovery is one of the primary specializations at Courage to Change. Many of our coaches identify as recovered or as family members of recovered people. We take a very indepth approach to the treatment of both substance and behavioral addictions (gambling, sex, media, co-dependency) looking at the whole person and how addicted brain effects each area of life. We embrace both harm reduction and traditional 12 step approaches as well as Christian based approaches to healing. We are not here to judge, we've been through it, we recovered, and now we're here to help in any way possible. We work in office, telehealth, and in community to serve those who are struggling.

While most treatment approaches to addiction include 12 step programs, rehabs, and now sober living houses, Grey Matters International, Inc. provides a wildly successful alternative to traditional models of addiction treatment----that keeps the brain in mind. That is, talking to the conscious brain while the primal brain is deciding things even before you are consciously aware? Well, that is the problem to solve in addiction. We have the solution utilizing a new cutting edge neuroscience-centered brain rebalancing system. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or call 877-606-6161.

It is both a challenging a empowering road when it comes to recovery from addiction. It takes commitment and willingness to start moving toward healthy change. When you are ready for that step, I am here to support you on a healing journey. Therapy will uncover self-destructive beliefs or habits (addictions/ patterns) that prevent you from feeling a sense of freedom and purpose. I also work with family members of those struggling with addiction. When addiction is present in a family, it has a profound impact on the entire family system. I aim to help individuals understand the addiction cycle and implement a recovery process that works best for you.

As a drug and alcohol counselor for children, teens and adults I provide psychoeducational information on relapse prevention and assist with collateral care. Within a school setting I have taught and counseled at risk students and children of alcoholics. Within a mental health clinic environment many clients were treated successfully who had a dual diagnosis. I have worked closely with psychiatrists to help monitor medications that assist patients in being successful with their recovery. I continue to attend ongoing workshops and classes that keep me on the cutting edge of being an effective and successful drug and alcohol counselor.

When working with someone with an addiction, it will be important to discuss the many facets of their addiction, including their triggers for use, the life they are living currently, and how their addiction has impacted them. We will talk about each of these concepts when working together, and discussing what the future would look like for them. When reducing or abstaining from use, it involves a loss of familiarity, of people, places, and it would be important for us to work together to discuss that change, and how to process it together.

Addiction often develops as a response to stresses in life that we have previously struggled to cope with. Though it serves a purpose, eventually this strategy no longer protects us and may lead to further struggles, physically, interpersonally and within our daily lives. Together we will work to understand your patterns, triggers, and develop new methods for living a life of ease. Compassion and understanding are essential to finding new ways of being. My approach for supporting those struggling with addiction is heavily person centered, believing that you have the innate power and ability to grow into the life you hope for.

Recovery looks different for everyone and can result in different outcomes. Clients have the choice to become completely sober or go back to what is considered a normal level of substance use. It depends on the client’s wants and needs. Using peer counselors in addition to a primary therapist can be beneficial. I take a harm reduction, person centered approach and have helped many overcome dysfunctional behaviors of addiction.

Addiction refers to anything that has become harmful or prevents you from reaching your ideal life - drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, self-harming, etc. I am coming from a sanctuary based, harm-reduction clinic which is ingrained in my approach to addiction. It means I value honesty in this process. I am not about forcing immediate sobriety or shaming you during relapse. It means I recognize and encourage your efforts and your small steps, even if they feel really small. fit. I want to focus on why YOU want to change and not why others told you you need to quit and I want to plan based on your environment and life circumstances to better assure progress.
