I always wanted to be a counsellor.  I desired the best life for myself, and for those around me as well.  I believe that my counselling skills developed not only from a solid education, but also from working through many challenges that I have had to face in my lifetime.  Those experiences have really developed a compassion and understanding for the individuals that walk through my door.  I have also had the privilege of living in a number of different countries which has afforded me the opportunity to learn a lot about the diversity of people and their cultures.

 Experience
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in the area of International Human Resources both here in Canada and in Switzerland. Since 2004, I have had my private practice in Canada and New Zealand.  I have also taught counselling at the Master's level and now continue to enjoy being a supervisor.  In New Zealand, I was the Founding Director and Counselling Manager of a Not for profit Counselling Centre with 8 therapists on staff.

 Education

I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology right after High School and then took some additional courses in Business Administration and Human Resources.  After my children were in elementary school, I went back to school and did my Master's in Counselling.     I believe in being a life-long learner, so I am continually attending various courses within the field of counselling.  I have done numerous further education studies in EFT counselling, grief/loss, assessments and supervision.

 Memberships
  • Canadian Professional Counselling Association - Master Practictioner of Clinical Counselling
  • Professional Association of Canadian Christian Counsellor - Certified Supervisor
  • Board Member - Professional Association of Christian Counsellor's - Vice President and Ethics Portfolio

Specialization

I believe all challenges in life are about loss.  Loss of relationship, loss of a dream, loss of a person, loss of self-esteem, loss of direction, loss of love.  When an individual can identify the loss, grieve the loss and then define a new normal and set into place tools on how to achieve that - all things are possible.  Whether I am working with younger or older adults, couples or families - I am wanting to help them find those areas of loss and find hope and healing beyond that loss.  I also work in the area of values,  helping individuals to define their personal or family values and to use those values in decision making and thus setting the course of their life.

On a Personal Note

I have been married to my husband, Glenn for over 25 years, and we have 2 terrific adult children. We have lived in Switzerland, New Zealand and Canada.  I love the sunshine, and getting outside to work in my yard, read or go for a run. I am training for my fifth half marathon.  I also love to travel, and am enjoying exploring the beauty here in the Vancouver area.
