Hello,

My name is Colleen Kelly, and I am a practicing Registered Clinical Counsellor/Psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience working in the field of mental health and relationships. I practice in-person and virtually from Ladysmith, BC.

For many people, counseling and therapy are new experiences. It takes courage to ask for support and to try new things to feel better and have more satisfying experiences and relationships. Change can be difficult but is possible with the right support, new skills, and a new perspective. As a counsellor providing support and skills training to you, I offer respectful service that is empathetic and interested in you and your experience. I have a variety of skills, perspectives, and diverse experiences, working with people in therapy.

When I meet someone who is reaching out for support, you are my main concern. Everyone is different and has unique experiences, goals, and needs. Services provided at Creative Minds Counselling Services are tailored to you, your needs, and your goals. Sometimes, it can be difficult to know what is wrong, or setting goals can seem overwhelming or out of reach. Depression, loss, and grief can keep us stuck. It is my work to just allow you to be, and express yourself and together we work to make things better by creating a space for change.

You are the center of our counseling plan. I have worked in mental health services (with psychiatry) for both adults and children for many years and have worked in private practice and for non-profit agencies. I have worked as a mental health liaison and mental health educator for local school districts and with diverse cultural populations; people with substance use concerns, religious populations, and the LGBTQ community. I often use art in my work, if you would like to have that experience.
My training and experience include working with adults, youth, couples, and families. My training includes attachment-based treatment; Adlerian approaches; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT); Family Systems and Virginia Satir; Narrative Therapy; Trauma-Informed Practice; Suicide Prevention; and Depth Psychology/Jungian approaches. I am trained in art therapy and other expressive modalities using art and cultural expression. I can also provide brief and solution-focused therapies. My training and experience also include grief and loss counselling.

I have had the privilege of working with diverse populations in Vancouver, Surrey, and throughout the Lower Mainland. My approach is always culturally sensitive, and I have several years of experience providing counselling and treatment to Indigenous people (adults, youth, and children). I provide counseling to families and partners supporting a loved one with mental illness, brain injury, substance use, dementia, and other illnesses.
