I've always been interested in psychology--that is, in what makes me and other people tick.  When I went through my own psychotherapy, I began to think about becoming a therapist myself. As I got to know myself, I began to believe I could get to know others.

Today I am a licensed psychoanalyst in New York, and I have been practicing for over 35 years.  I still feel excited when each new client walks through my door, hoping that I'll be able to find the key to unlock her or his personality.  There are a lot of good psychotherapists out there, but I doubt if there are any who have more of a passion to heal than I do.

I have been known to calm people with anxiety, lift people out of their sadness, soothe those who are caught up in anger, and talk people out of their addictions.  I have worked with adults of all varieties as well as children, adolescents, couples and families.  Although I was trained as a psychoanalyst, I have done additional work in Gestalt therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and bioenergetics.  My eclectic approach helps me to use the right modality with each client.

I graduated from three psychotherapy institutes and received a Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the Washington Square Institute in New York in 1981. I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of psychology at the Borough of Manhattan Community College since 2002. I have authored over 20 books, most of which cover psychological topics; these include 76 Typical Therapy Mistakes: A Workbook for Psychotherapists, The Dictionary of Dream Interpretation, The Art of Hating, Psychotherapy With People in the Arts, Jennifer and Her Selves and Turning Points in Analytic Therapy.

I am a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and on the health insurance networks of Aetna, Cigna, Empire Blue Cross, Humana, Paradigm and Healthfirst.
