Lori Godin View Specialties

I specialize in treating anxiety issues, including panic attacks, phobias, constant worrying, post traumatic stress (PTSD), dissociation disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and others. In addition, I specialize in couples therapy and treating insomnia.

Treatment for anxiety-based issues is largely successful using evidence-based approaches, such as EMDR, systematic desensitization, exposure therapy, mindfulness meditation, hypnosis, and various other cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. With my education and/or training in all of these approaches, it is likely that I can help reduce or eliminate your anxiety-based problem.

Working with couples issues in therapy, I lean heavily on my training in the Gottman method.  My approach is quite structured, and couples make the most progress if they are willing to take their learning from our sessions and apply it to their lives at home.

And finally, I treat people suffering from insomnia utilizing a cognitive behavioral program developed by Gregg D. Jacobs, Ph.D.  This program is very structured and can be done individually or in a group setting.  It has a good rate of success for increasing sleep hours and overall satisfaction with sleep.

During my career as a therapist, I have worked with a wide variety of people on a wide variety of issues.  Prior to beginning my private practice, I worked with adolescents as part of a substance abuse program and later with adolescents and families in a residential program for runaways.  I interned with Family Court Services doing custody mediation.  At a private agency, I facilitated groups for batterers as well as working individually with their partners.  Later I became a program director for a domestic violence intervention program.

A Graduate of the University of Michigan, College of Engineering, I began my career as an equipment engineer at Intel Corporation.  I had a variety of engineering and managerial responsibilities over the first several years.  Then after obtaining my MBA from Santa Clara University, I worked in the North American Marketing group on microprocessor products.  Finally, I decided to go back to Santa Clara University and obtain my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology.  Subsequently, I became licensed as a marriage and family therapist in 1999. And most recently, I also became licensed as a professional clinical counselor in April 2013.

My training includes clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), marital therapy theory and approaches with Dr. John Gottman, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through the EMDR Institute, trauma treatment with Bessel van der Kolk, MD, insomnia therapy through Dr. Gregg D. Jacobs, and mindfulness meditation from Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., as well as other relevant techniques and approaches.  Please also visit my website for more information.
