- Would you like to feel you can move forward in spite of your past?

- Have you lost a loved one and are not sure how to deal with it?

Then you have come to the right place!  In her successful private practice since 1997, Lorill has helped individuals and couples achieve fulfilling and joyful lives in spite of their past experiences.  Lorill's expertise includes:

- Recovery from childhood abuse - physical, sexual, emotional

- Couple communication and connection - mentoring couples in having more intimate conversations, and a more  secure attachment

- Emotional trauma - from death of a loved one, car or workplace accident, flashbacks to previous frightening events

- Marriage counselling - increasing mutual appreciation, and developing a more positive relationship

- Assault victims - rape, physical or emotional attack

- Job loss/ Professional Burn-out

Lorill has honed her couple therapy skills, and continues to increase her effectiveness in bringing you a positive outcome from your work with her.  Some couples who've been on the brink of separation have said that they were falling in love again after working with Lorill.  As an example of Lorill's style and personal connection, she guides couples to transform interactions from an anxious pursuit/criticism and avoidance/withdrawal cycle, to a deeper connection.  She supports you to become allies, working together on creating a fulfilling marriage.  Each partner's emotions and perceptions are validated, and treated with respect, while bringing to light how these fit into a cycle of interaction, in which each reacts to the other.  Lorill creates a safe space for the partners to risk changes to these patterns.  She fosters a more positive interaction cycle, which allows each partner to expand their own experience of the relationship and themselves.

After completing her Master's degree in Counselling, Lorill worked for 7 years in the Social Services with couples, single mothers, families, and children.  This gave her experience with a broad range of people, with both emotional and interpersonal problems.  Lorill also continued her professional development to obtain a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy.  Wanting to use her educational background to a greater degree, Lorill decided to focus her counselling on working with adults.  She has taught college counselling courses (at Wild Rose College in Vancouver, and Kwantlen College), and has worked in career planning.  In her private practice, Lorill has helped individuals and couples to achieve their goals of healing their past so they can live more wholeheartedly today.

Lorill is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (R.C.C.) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, with specialties in Couple and Marriage Therapy, and Trauma Resolution.  She obtained a Certificate in Marriage & Family Therapy soon after completing her Master of Education in Counselling degree, and has continued her professional development throughout her career.  Lorill completed two levels of Gottman Marital Therapy, and now employs Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, in which she has completed both the Externship and the Advanced Core Skills.  She holds the designation of "Therapist Certified in EMDR" a therapy recognized as effective for the treatment of PTSD, as well as other smaller traumas of everyday life.  Lorill is a mature, well rounded therapist whose commitment to professional development continues to increase her therapeutic effectiveness.
