Roanoke Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which combines the use of prescription medication with individual and group counseling, for opioid addiction. Our premier outpatient addiction treatment center in Roanoke, Virginia, provides services for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with opioid addiction. Roanoke CTC provides individualized care for every client we treat.

Addiction treatment at our facility begins with a detailed assessment, which covers substance use history, mental health history, and medical history, to create a personalized treatment plan. A client’s treatment plan includes a prescription for medication and a counselor and therapy group they are assigned to. Specifics like duration of treatment and frequency of counseling are determined on an individual basis and impacted by factors like length and severity of opioid addiction.

Roanoke CTC helps clients stop using opioids through the use of medication-assisted treatment. MAT is the leading method of treating opioid addiction, and evidence shows high success rates. Research by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that MAT leads to fewer opioid-related deaths, higher treatment retention rates, and increased rates of employment. Clients at Roanoke CTC may be prescribed methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone, or Suboxone. The FDA-approved medications used in MAT mirror some of the effects of opioids, thereby providing significant relief from cravings and withdrawal symptoms. However, the medications don’t produce the negative effects of opioid drugs, like drowsiness and disorientation.

MAT medications have a significant positive impact on a person’s well-being and motivation. Clients who take part in MAT at our outpatient treatment center receive comprehensive support as they transition to fulfilling work, school, and home responsibilities without the use of opioid drugs. While medications help clients stop using opioids, our group and individual therapies are designed to create long-term change. Counseling sessions at Roanoke CTC help clients understand how addiction works in the mind and body. Clients learn how emotional health, mental health, relationships, and life stressors may contribute to their opioid use. Increased self-awareness and self-esteem are two common outcomes of our counseling services. The compassionate treatment team at Roanoke CTC understands that addiction impacts far more than physical health.

Our programs aim to provide the guidance necessary to help clients heal damaged relationships, establish a meaningful role in the community, and set goals for employment, education, and skills training. Working toward recovery means more than finding freedom from opioid addiction — it means the opportunity to reevaluate the trajectory life has taken and create an achievable plan for goals and aspirations.
