As a therapist, I see many people whose hearts have been broken due to various types of life traumas. Sometimes we become frozen in the pain of our past. Fear overwhelms us and we become angry, confused, or depressed. Reaching out for help is a beginning step toward healing the heart & soul within. My role is to listen, access, and assistant you with a treatment plan that will be positive and rewarding for you. Honesty, trust, patience, and commitment are the basics for building a therapeutic relationship with positive results.
After my marriage of 25 years ended, I was left to raise 6 children as a single mother. I decided to go back to college and after several years earned a Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Great Falls, located in Great Falls, Montana.
During my college years I worked as a private home-health provider, working with terminally ill patients and their families and raising my 4 sons and 2 daughters.
In 2002, I opened a private practice, helping abused women and children to regain their self-esteem and helping them to formulate goals for their future. I also was a co-founder and director of a Group Home for high-risk teenage girls in Bigfork, Montana.
In May 2003 my youngest son, was shot and killed accidently by an acquaintance. This traumatic event changed many things in the life of my family. But with God’s help I was able to forgive the young man who shot him, and move forward into healing my own heart and the hearts of my other children. I learned how my family and friends supported me in my time of need.
In 2006, I received my state license from the Montana. I continued my private practice in Bigfork, and eventually moved my office to Kalispell, Montana. A few years later, I received my license for state of Washington. After raising my children and living in Montana for 30 years, I decided to move to the Bellingham/Lynden area where my daughters now live. I opened an office in Lynden in October, 2014. Washington is a beautiful state and I am enjoying living here now.
I love to read and write. I am working on a personal memoir called The Veil of Anguish. Hopefully, it will be completed and published sometime in 2016. I am also enjoying my 5 grandchildren.
I have always been a people person and have a great deal of experience working with a wide variety of men, women, and teens. I have been told that I am patient, kind, and understanding. Often, my clients are surprised to know there is hope for them to find the peace and harmony that they lack in their lives. I work with Christians and non-Christians in my practice. Not judging my clients, is a skill that I have that can help anyone to a healthier and happier life. I am a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, which means that I believe you can change your negative thoughts and behaviors by changing your thinking. By getting to the “core” issues, I can help you to discover the truth about yourself. Trauma from the past and present can be overcome.
I specialize in grief and bereavement therapy. Also, many of my clients have had dysfunctional families of origin and are able to challenge and overcome their codependency issues, which are affecting their relationships now. Depression and anxiety can be helped. Many of my clients have anger management issues. I have worked with military individuals and their families for 3 years. I have experience with Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury. In my current practice I can help assess for gambling, drugs, alcohol, pornography and other addictions, and make the proper referrals.
I look forward to hearing from you. My number is 360-214-2062.
