INDIVIDUAL THERAPY  |  RELATIONSHIPS  |  TEENS

Do you feel down most days?

Do you feel disconnected from your partner and alone?

Are you a teen that feels out of control of your emotions?

I have helped many clients restore safety, stability and trust within themselves and interpersonal relationships - it would be an honour to help you to.

HERE'S HOW I WILL HELP YOU:

At Shannon Elgert Psychotherapy, I embrace therapeutic modalities that utilize a trauma-informed approach and view the client as a whole to bring awareness, change, healing and hope.

I value the story and experience of everyone I work with and strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental and validating experience throughout.

When working with couples, I like to use Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) which is clinically researched and proven to help support couples suffering from distress in their relationship. EFT helps couples to identify patterns that block each partner from getting their needs met and together, how to stop the pattern.

Another method I use is The Gottman Method, which focuses on lessening conflict and increasing intimacy, respect and affection. The therapy provides tools that integrates research-based interventions revolving around a Sound Relationship House.

When working with teens, I like to use Dialectical behaviour Therapy (DBT), which is skill-based and focuses on four major modules: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. Together one learns and practices the skills to increase safety, act less impulsively and improve emotions and relationships.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACH:

Some often wonder about the difference between counselling and psychotherapy. Counselling is a short-term treatment that emphasizes a specific symptom or situation whereas psychotherapy aims to provide long-term relief with more in-depth understanding to a person's inner experience.

I use the process of psychotherapy to link exploration of past experiences and how they may affect one today. My approach is often effective in the beginning stages of therapy where trust, safety and stability are established.  Our work together will be a collaboratively tailored to fit your unique needs.
