Bio:
Tameka Gibson is a licensed psychotherapist and nationally certified professional counselor.  She attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling with emphasis in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  Tameka holds specializations in Addictions, Technology Assisted, and Rehabilitation Counseling.  She is a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, professional life coach, and a trained volunteer.  Her volunteer efforts focus on women, children, and early childhood literacy.

Tameka's keen insights on diverse societal concerns derive from a broad-based career in people work.  Her services include (and have included) career, mental health, and addictions counseling to people of various socioeconomic backgrounds.  She is a consultant to military families, divorcing parents, and people involved in the legal system.

Tameka enjoys working with people in group via psycho-educational counseling.  She has over 8 years of facilitation skills, leading numerous group types: adult and adolescent substance use, domestic violence (victims and offenders), anger management, co-parenting, deployment, and conflict resolution.

As a person-centered counselor, Tameka's primary task is to provide a therapeutic atmosphere, which stems from psychotherapy core conditions.  Such core conditions and attitude help create change in the client toward self-actualization (the realization or fulfillment of one's talents and potentialities, especially considered as a drive or need present in everyone).  This environment provides the safety for a client to explore any aspect of self.

Three core conditions of a person-centered counselor:

1. Congruence (genuineness)- Tameka is aware of and accurately expresses her own feelings authentically and genuinely.
2.  Unconditional positive regard- She accepts all clients without judgment.
3.  Accurate empathy- Tameka truly understands the thoughts and feelings of her clients.

Agreeing with the founder of person-centered or Rogerian therapy, Tameka considers congruence as most
important.

As a Cognitive Behavioral therapist, Tameka believes that symptoms are learned responses that can be unlearned.

Roles of the Cognitive Behavioral Counselor:
1.  Tameka takes on a directive role as the expert on behavioral and cognition (thinking) errors.
2.  She models appropriate behavioral strategies for communication and conflict resolution.
3.  Tameka assesses the cognitive distortions of the client and educates him/her on more appropriate ways to
handle faulty thinking.
