If you are looking for a place to renew your spirt and find a sense of hope, inner wisdom, and peace, then you have come to the right place!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with specialized training in EMDR therapy, and enjoy working with teens and adults as they navigate many of the nuances of life, including traumatic pain, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, anxiety, grief, loss, and relational and behavioral problems.
As your therapist, I work to nurture your self-healing and help you regain control over your life. Using a light-hearted, collaborative and holistic approach to psychotherapy, my aim is to empower you to create a balanced, healthy life- mentally, physically and spiritually.
I have a special interest in helping teens and adults work through upsetting life experiences that are keeping them from living full, happy lives. Trauma comes in many different forms. It can be childhood sexual abuse, rape, physical abuse, traumatic injuries from a car accident, war-related trauma, loss of a loved one, or loss from natural disasters. It can also be pain experienced from being neglected or rejected as a child by family, friends, teachers, or strangers. Maybe your trauma seems tiny and minor to everyone else, but you can't seem to get over it. Perhaps upsetting memories keep you up at night, or you avoid people, places or things that remind you of the pain. Past negative life experiences can make it seem like you're disconnected from the present, cause your relationships to suffer, and/or lead you to turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms. I can help you reprocess traumatic memories that may be getting in the way of present relationships with self and others, so that they become integrated into your experience in healthier, more adaptive ways. Imagine a more mindful, satisfying future where your painful memories no longer have the power to keep you stuck!
I also provide pre and post-operative bariatric evaluation and counseling to clients undergoing weight loss surgery. I work closely with Minimally Invasive Surgeons of North County to help make this life-changing decision as smooth as possible. I can help you make informed decisions about your surgery, and work with you to make healthy lifestyle changes before and after surgery. We eat for many different reasons, not all of them because we are hungry. We can explore various areas of your life- psychological, spiritual, physical, intellectual, social, environmental- that are affecting your relationship with food and eating in order to make lasting change.
I have been married for 25 years and have 3 boys, ages 17, 19, and 21. I love to travel, and enjoy doing yoga and hiking with my husband and dogs. I grew up in Ventura, did my undergrad at UC Davis, and then returned to Southern California when my Navy husband was stationed at Balboa and Camp Pendleton. I got my Master's degree in San Diego after being a stay-at-home mom for a number of years. We lived in Carlsbad for 15 years and recently moved to the hills of Escondido where we are enjoying more space and more critters! I have a second office out of my guesthouse where clients enjoy the peace and serenity of the mountain, in addition to our little petting zoo!
