Some people think of anger as bad or something to be avoided. I see anger as a normal part of human emotion. If you are feeling angry frequently, or if it feels out of control sometimes, then it is best to see a professional counselor to help make sense of it and to lessen the frequency of angry feelings. I can help you do this as I have extensive experience in this area. In fact, I have worked with very difficult anger management cases referred through the court system. Help is available and you can feel better. Please contact me now for help with anger.

We all experience anger. It is a feeling along with sadness and guilt and many other feelings that every human experiences. For some people anger becomes a problem because it becomes unmanageable. It hurts others. It creates fear for people around the person who cannot control their anger. If anger is not explored and not channeled properly, it can destroy relationships and affect a persons success at home and in the workplace. Anger management can help identify the triggers and root of the issues. Temperament can be a cause . Genetics, environment are part of understanding the issue of anger.

Anger basically is a natural emotion. The pesence of anger indicates a problem exists. It is the esclation of anger that often causes additional problems. The challenge is not avoiding anger but using it to help resolve an issue. Being solution focused requires clear thinking and ownership of the issue. Then growth is possible as a result. We build on life expereinces and identifying the individual's role is essential to that process.

I excell at counseling individuals who have trouble controlling anger. I have worked for over twenty years with people who are in danger of being homeless and who are recovering from addiction. Many of these people are severely angry due to their circumstances. Many of them have prior felonies/misdemeanors. This work experience has strengthened my skills at anger assessment/treatment. I am non judgemental with people who are angry, and I offer support to their families as well as to the individuals who suffer from the intensity of their anger.
Gilza Fort Martinez, LMFT
As human beings, we experience all kinds of emotions...simultaneously. This can overwhelm us & others around us, creating conflict. If others criticize you for your outbursts or if you have gotten into trouble at work, caring counseling can help. Gilza's approach to managing anger is through exploring your whole self, not just the "angry side" in order to create a self management plan that is unique to you.

Anger is not a bad feeling and is a feeling that needs to be managed. In therapy we learn what are your triggers to anger and learn to master ways to channel your anger effectively. If you are able to master this skill, not only will you learn not to fear your anger but also to use it in productive ways.
Many people who have anger problems live in shame as they carry a list of incidents where they lost control and hurt others or themselves. With anger management therapy our goal is to master your anger and be free of shame or guilt.
Anger should not control you, you should control your anger..... this can be done.

Anger is a normal emotion that often signals that one feels wronged. It can either be helpful or harmful. If one is being harmed, for example, and is in need of taking immediate corrective action, anger can facilitate one’s ability to do so appropriately; however, anger becomes harmful when it becomes inappropriate, chronic, or unmanageable. Signs of unrecognized or unresolved sadness, pain, hurt, or loss fueling anger are: verbally abusive language, physical assaults on others, self-injurious behavior, tension held in the body (clenched fists or jaw, glaring looks, etc.), substance abuse / dependency.

When you have difficulty responding instead of reacting, it may feel like you are always reacting in inappropriate ways. I will help you learn to slow down the reactions so you can be more mindful of how you are affecting yourself and others. If you learn how to have a choice in the middle of your reaction, you learn to have more control. You don't have to feel guilt, shame or blame, as a result.
