I utilize play therapy methods with young children to help them express their emotions in the way that is normal and appropriate for kids, through play! The kids I treat often have a good time while they work through their emotional problems of fear, anger, or sadness towards someone important in their lives. They can work out their aggressions on clay figures and their fears and sadness through paintings. I believe that the indirect approach of play therapy is developmentally appropriate for young children because they are not yet ready for the "adult" techniques of talk therapy.

Children playing can be more than just fun and games. Play & art therapy are incredible ways to help children open up and work on challenges in a fun, creative, and safe setting. Whether your kiddo is having difficulties in the home, academically, or in social situations, therapy can be a wonderful way to help them explore and work through tough feelings that can be confusing. Working collaboratively with a child and their family can have a great impact on a child's progress when dealing with feelings of sadness, anxiety, anger, abuse and inattention. I would ensure to provide a supportive and fun environment to your child and your family.

Children have stress just as adults do. They have to cope with divorce, blended families, high academic expectations, grief and loss, to name a few. Therapy can provide a safe place for them to just be who they are. With small children, I do play therapy. This may involve art projects, games, or dolls. Every parent knows that asking kids a direct question gets them nowhere, but children can express volumes through their play. At the same time, it feels safe and comfortable to them. If you have concerns about your child's behavior or you know they are going through a hard time, please call. There is no charge for a phone consultation.

Children come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Some examples are behavioral problems, failing grades, not focusing, not staying on task, fighting with peers, poor social skills, not listening at home, and hyperactivity. Using play therapy and art therapy, I help children express themselves. Children experience counseling as fun which results in them expressing themselves honestly and resolving the issue through play. If you want to help your child be successful in school or at home, I can help you.

As a parent, I know how important it is for us to feel that our children are doing well, feeling happy, and growing to their potential. Since young children are always growing and changing, we often find ourselves thinking, “Is everything alright?” I have experience working with young children dealing with various issues, including behavioral issues, divorce, anxiety, depression, abandonment, sexual abuse, family conflict, and physical abuse. Because play is the language of young children, I implement expressive forms of therapy, such as art and play, to build a trusting relationship and to allow the child an avenue to express his/her thoughts and feelings.

You know your child better than anyone in the world. You notice the small shifts and changes that can tell you that something is off and your child is struggling. I help parents help their child! Whether your child is struggling with a transition like separation, divorce or relocation, or they are are sad, anxious, or angry--we can develop a plan to help your child be their best self. For younger children, I primarily focus on play therapy and parent coaching. Kids communicate through play more than through talking. Parent coaching and collaboration help me to get a clear sense of how things are at home and at school, and give you suggestions on how to respond to issues in the moment.
