One needs to look at a family as a system. By this I mean that every member of the nuclear (and extended) family interacts with one another as well as the whole. If any element of the system changes or alters its behavior, the entire system experiences disharmony and disruption -- the homeostasis or equilibrium is altered. For families to function in harmony, a restructured equilibrium needs to be established.
