Families are complicated. This is why we work from a family systems approach as we do not believe that one person is the problem, but rather we look at ways to improve the overall family system so that things can flow more smoothly for all. Our family therapy can involve some, or all, family members. The focus of family therapy is to allow for everyone to feel heard, identify family strengths, and make adjustments for areas of improvement.

Families will have a safe and supportive space to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their relationships. Therapy can help family members develop a deeper understanding of each other's perspectives, improve trust and empathy, and learn effective problem-solving skills. We can offer tools to address family dynamics, improve parenting strategies, and navigate life transitions. Issues such as divorce, substance abuse, or mental health challenges that affect the entire family can be addressed within this space.

Our relationships with our family are some of the most complex relationships of our lives. Being able to communicate our needs and feelings with our loved ones is crucial to our well-being and is an essential part of a successful parent/child relationship. Over time, families co-create a language and ways of interacting and being. However, as we enter times of stress and change, and our children grow, we start to develop independent languages that cause us to feel unheard, and invalidated. Sessions will allow you to be intentional about sharing with each other and provide a safe place to open up, repair hurts, and relearn each other's language.

My formal degree is Marriage and Family Therapy. This systemic training focuses on the family as a dynamic and integral part of each individual. Everyone in the family influences everyone else, change impacts the system. The more people in a family involved in the therapy session the better! As a family member in therapy you can understand your impact on everyone else, reach new levels of communication with each other, and discover new ways of being that are respectful, inclusive, and connected.

When one family member is depressed, stressed, angry, or otherwise not at their best, it deeply affects the rest of the family. Sometimes individual therapy is the correct path, but often, addressing relationship dynamics within the family system is the quickest, most direct way of dealing with the issue. Family therapy uses standard CBT approaches but also focuses on communication, conflict resolution and family dynamics. Systemic or Strategic approaches are often utilized to help families understand how each family member impacts the family unit as a whole. Ways to facilitate more effective communication are an integral component of family work. Education around typical family functioning is also useful/
