As a certified pastoral counselor with sixteen years of experience, I meet the client where they are and integrate scripture and psychology as desired and appropriate for the client. Having earned a Master of Divinity degree and a master's degree in counseling and psychology I have a foundation for Christian counseling that the majority of other Christian therapists do not. I have also taught and supervised students in offering Christian counseling in multiple institutions while also serving as a pastor with specific responsibilities in the areas of pastoral care and counseling.

Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality. God promises that we can know the truth and the truth can set us free. This is the foundation for counseling. When clients have faith in God, that can be a wonderful resource for them in their healing journey. False beliefs can cause painful emotions and relational dysfunctions. Sometimes we need help understanding God's truths and how they apply to our lives. This is where a trained therapist who also has a strong faith can come alongside and help, combining the best of psychotherapy with Biblical truth.

Is a Christian Counseling perspective important to you in therapy? As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

While I can offer a Christian perspective during our counseling sessions, let me be upfront in saying I am not a Biblical scholar. I do not have a degree in theology, and I am not a pastor. However, I have made the decision to follow the narrow path as best I can. I do accept Jesus Christ as my Lord. I am a member of a local church. As a Christian and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor it is my desire to be a witness to others. Although this practice is not listed under Christian counseling and all denominations are welcomed, having a counselor who is a Christian can help to provide those with similar faiths to come together and use their faith in their healing process through counseling.

As Jennifer's practice is located in a Catholic Church, which she attends she is open to offering a Christian counseling experience. She encourages client's with a Christian religious preference to discuss that with her upon first contact. Jennifer uses prayer and the Bible Christian authors and other specifically Christian sources to facilitate Christian counseling.

Being a Christian certainly does not keep us from experiencing hard times, emotional struggles, illnesses, or relationship pain. My goal is to help you navigate whatever challenges you may be experiencing, either individually or as a couple, in a way that strengthens your faith and reminds you of the purpose God has for your life. While it can be incredibly hard to walk as a Christian in the world today, it is my belief that God will make a way.
