I have worked with clients as young as 3. Play therapy is a huge part of the counseling process for young children. My office has many toys, games, and art supplies available to help children feel comfortable and also to help them express themselves when they can't quite find the words to do so. My goal is to make children feel welcome and at home to help them and their family in the best way possible.

I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Play Therapy when working with young children to help them address many issues. Play therapy helps children to feel safe and comfortable to express and work on issues that are challenging them. I use CBT to help children learn how to address faulty thinking about themselves and others and to learn effective ways to cope with negative feelings and situations. I also use solution focused approaches to help children address issues such as ADHD. Social skills training may also be a component for children who struggle to make friends or to get along well at school. My goal is to help children to be happier.

As the lyrics of a well-known song acknowledge, children often have no familial voice with regard to their welfare and well-being. They are, to a great extent, dependent upon their caregivers for their emotional, relational, and spiritual needs. At Chrysalis Connections, we recognize the special challenges children face and make every effort to honor and lift up the needs and wishes of our smallest clients. Giving our young clients a voice in the family process ensures a more complete family therapy experience and reduces the chance that these sometimes unheard voices will seek more definitive methods of being seen and heard.
