As human beings, we have a natural need and desire to be connected to others. We also have an equally strong need to be an autonomous self. Family therapy can help to address the root cause of the problem. Often, in order to attain lasting change, the entire family system (at least part of it) needs to work together with appropriate communication skills and boundaries in order for positive change to take place.
