I work from the perspective that substance and process addictions are attempts to coping with difficult/painful feelings and experiences. We all need ways to cope, and unfortunately not everyone has the opportunity to learn positive coping strategies early in life. In our work together, we will not only work to understand the function of addiction in your life, but also build up new skills to deal with the feelings and experiences that addiction helped temporarily relieve, but this time, without the hard costs that come with substance and process addictions. I also have experience helping those impacted by another person's addiction.

Many approaches to addiction emphasize willpower and deprivation, but this only works temporarily. Alcohol, substances, or other addictive behaviours like gambling and gaming offer short-term relief of underlying issues at a long-term cost to one's relationships and health. As an addiction counsellor, I can help you resolve underlying issues, regain control, and build a sense of meaning and purpose, so you can start living the life you want.
